Al- Karqawi at the opening of the federation meeting: It is required to activate participation in tournaments, especially national teams, and we are happy to include men's clubs in the international agenda.

Major General M. Ismail Al-Karqawi, President of the Arab and UAE Basketball Federations, started the meeting of the Federation’s Board of Directors, which was held yesterday in Cairo, with a speech that stressed at the outset the necessity of developing the work system and activating the participation of member countries in Arab championships, especially in the women’s teams championship and junior championships, similar to other competitions, especially clubs. Al-Karqawi praised the great efforts made by the General Secretariat under the leadership of Brigadier General Abdullah Shalaby, Secretary General, and thanked the Arab federations for their cooperation and keenness to support and develop Arab basketball. Before the council was briefed on the report of the Secretary-General, the president and members of the federation stood for a minute of mourning on the death of the former Director General of the federation, Mr. Zaki Ahmed Sherif, as the conferees praised the great efforts he made during his work in the federation, praying to the Almighty God to have mercy on him and to dwell him in his spacious gardens and to inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace. That is, the Secretary General presented the technical report for the past year, which included a detail of what took place at the General Assembly meeting of the Arab Federation No. 22, which was held in Dubai on February 16, 2022, as well as the minutes of 23 during the meeting that was held the following day, and what accompanied them in terms of the election of a new board of directors headed by Maj. Gen. Ismail Al Karqawi. The report also included a presentation of the championships organized by the federation, beginning with the men’s championship in the Emirates, which Lebanon won, passing through the youth championship in Cairo, which was won by the Egyptian team, and the women’s club championship, which was won by the Lebanese Beirut team, with the participation of 11 teams, and finally the men’s club championship in Kuwait, with the participation of 16 teams, and the Kuwait Club won it, while Al-Ahly of Egypt came in second place, and because of the strength and popularity of the tournament, the International Federation decided to include it in the international agenda, where the president and members of the Federation expressed their happiness with this international decision. After the report, The Board member Mr. Rabeh Bo Oreify proposed the increase of the subscriptions and Dr. Magdy Abo Freikha the vice-president proposed to approve three levels while hosting the first, second and third tournaments, the Board praised the financial performance Developing the financial system and working to provide the budget and increase the Federation’s revenues, as it was found that there is a surplus in the budget and the increase in revenues compared to expenditures. After that, the Council approved the final account submitted by Ayman Salem, the financial manager.
